Qui i cristalli di ghiaccio che sono sospesi nell’atmosfera possono generare un alone intorno al sole, a volte compaiono anche i sun dogs.
Alba e crepuscolo a DomeC
L’arrivo delle prime albe e dei tramondi ci ha stupito con una moltitudine di colori inaspettati.
I classici colori legati al tramonto risultano esseme molto più intensi di quelli a cui siamo abituati.
Per la prima volta ho visto crescere dalla parte opposta del tramonto sfumature di rosa e viola che via via lasciavano il posto a una fetta sempre più grande di oscurità. Ovviamente durante le albe il processo è ribaltato.
La cosa più bella è osservare il cielo separato in una grande V, da un lato i colori chiari (gialli/arancio) degradano fino a raggiungere in punto di minimo da cui poi si rafforzano i colori scuri (rosa/viola).
Le stesse costruzioni umane creano giochi di luce con i riflessi delle finestre, affascinanti abbracci con la sagoma della loro struttura o contrasti con la loro illuminazione interna.

We saw a soft white glow from the window and a photo confirmed that there was an aurora outside.
The spectacle is outstanding: two auroras cross the sky making a big X.
Just for few minutes the intensity became stronger and visible to the naked eye. A big gift for Elvio’s Birthday (september 1)
I have enhanced the photos (luminosity +70, contrast +60) to show the aurora but the color rendering depends on your monitor
Una finestra sull’universo
Ogni notte, attraverso la finestra, la mia vista spazia su di un meraviglioso universo di stelle.

Fuori dalla finestra l’ambiente é ostile alla vita. Le temperature oscillano tra -55°C e -75°C e la pressione atmosferica è di circa 644.4 hPA. La finestra è doppia e tra le due finestre la temperatura oscilla tra -22°C e -41°C. l’interno della finestra esterna é ricoperto da uno spesso strato di ghiaccio. Il giorno (o quando accendo la luce) il vetro della finestra interna ammalia la mia vista con un gioco di cristalli di ghiaccio.

Also the antarctic night has its wonders. The night sky with stars, planets, satellites, meteors, the milkyway and the Moon.
A lot of people are afraid about perennal night but if you have a lot of interests and keep in touch with your love, parents or friends it is simple to avoid the winterover syndrome (at least for me).
You couldn’t observe all these wonders with the Sun.
Photography is one of my best interests here, followed by wood carving and painting.
This is one concreate pillar tall as least 3 meters near the astronomical shelters. The first photo is oversaturated because it is very difficult to regulate the photocamera parameters at -65°C. In some case you have to remove your gloves, act on controls and put back the gloves as faster as you can. But after few shots the camera controls start to freeze, the LCD updates the images really slowly and the shot button starts to become unresponsive.

Only Simonetta and Nicole are out of the Station for scientific work. They have seen just a soft white glow because the intensity is very low.

The 14 July a reddish light paints the DomeC horizon. Sunlight intensity is just above the lower limit of my fotocamera sensitivity.
